Color Therapy

Have you heard of color therapy? It's an alternative medicine method that is based on the theory that different colors have different impacts on our mood as well as our physical and/or mental health. Many believe that color therapy can correct imbalances in our bodies and even cure illnesses. While it is also believed that each color has similar effects on most people (e.g, the color red is energizing and the color blue improves focus), scientists have discovered that an attraction to specific colors which are not represented in the environments that we have created for ourselves can be telling of areas in our health that need attention. For example, I always gravitate towards bright reds, magentas, and oranges, but I usually surround myself with blues, grays, and whites. As a teen, I remember choosing wild colors without hesitation, simply because they appealed to me (including my kelly green carryall and hot pink-colored bedroom walls), but as I’ve gotten older, I often find myself playing it safe with neutrals. Perhaps it’s time we listen to that inner voice that’s urging us to choose chartreuse instead of navy blue because maybe, that’s what we really need.
